Snail arrived at the meadow race after everyone had finished. The ribbon lay in a heap.

“Did I miss everything?” she asked.

Rabbit looked at the empty track. “You missed our race. We have not seen yours.”

He picked up one end of the ribbon. Mouse held the other. Snail started beside a daisy. She passed a pebble, a feather, and a very interesting leaf.

The friends waited while she examined the leaf. Then they walked beside her.

At last, Snail touched the ribbon with her feelers. Everyone cheered.

“I liked the feather best,” she said.

“I never noticed it,” Rabbit answered.

They went back together to look. This time no one timed the journey, and everyone found something new.
