Fox could not find his picnic spoon. He saw shiny things in Magpie’s nest.

“You took it!” he called.

Magpie fluttered down. “Those are bottle caps. Let us look before we decide.”

They searched beside the blanket. Rabbit checked the basket. Fox checked beneath the cups. No spoon.

Then Fox remembered stirring the soup at home. He hurried back and found his spoon beside the pot.

At the picnic, he stood near Magpie. “I blamed you without knowing. I am sorry.”

“Thank you for telling me,” she said.

Rabbit offered an extra spoon. Fox shared the first bowl of soup with Magpie. Above them, her bottle caps sparkled in the nest, exactly where they belonged.
