When you reread a page, it feels familiar, so it is easy to believe you have learned it.

When you reread a page, it feels familiar, so it is easy to believe you have learned it. But recognizing information is not the same as recalling it without help. Close the book and explain the main idea in your own words. Write what you remember, answer questions, or teach it to someone else. The effort of retrieving knowledge is what makes it stronger. Do not measure learning only by hours spent reading. A better test is whether you can recall, apply, and explain the idea clearly when the page is closed.
