A student received his essay covered entirely in red marks.
He felt discouraged and thought that he had done nothing right.
The next day, the teacher gave him a second copy of the same essay. This time, all the good ideas, beautiful sentences, and correct expressions were highlighted in green.
Surprised, the student asked:
“Why did you mark only the mistakes yesterday?”
The teacher replied:
“So that I could understand what needed to be corrected. But today, I want you to understand what needs to be preserved.”
To help a person grow, it is not enough to point out only their mistakes. We must also remind them of their strengths.
