The Moon That Waited

Every evening, Narek tried to finish everything before the moon appeared. He stacked blocks, fed his toy bear, and hurried into his pajamas.
One night his tower tumbled. Blocks rolled under the bed.
“I will miss the moon!” he cried.
Grandmother sat beside him. “Let us look together.”
The moon was already in the window, round and quiet. It had not closed the sky or hurried away.
Narek picked up one block. Grandmother found another. They put the bear on his pillow and folded the blanket.
Outside, a cloud covered the moon. Narek waited. Soon the bright circle returned.
“Sometimes I can wait, too,” he said.
He climbed into bed without racing. The moonlight rested on his blanket while Grandmother began a story.
