Based on a fable by Aesop · Adapted for children by YouAndWorld

A young fox who lived near the forest had never seen a lion.

One morning, while searching for berries, he heard a deep roar and saw a large lion walking toward him.

The lion's golden mane, powerful paws, and loud voice frightened the fox so much that he ran home without looking back.

— That must be the most terrifying animal in the world! — he thought.

A few days later, the fox saw the lion again. His heart beat quickly, but this time he hid behind a bush and watched from a safe distance.

The lion drank from the river, rested beneath a tree, and continued on his way without troubling anyone.

When they met for the third time, the fox gathered his courage.

— Good morning, — said the fox.

— Good morning, little fox, — answered the lion kindly.

The fox understood that much of his fear had come from facing something unfamiliar. He still treated the lion with care and respect, but he was no longer terrified whenever he heard a roar.
