Mila found a tiny cloud caught in the branches of her apple tree. It was no bigger than her mitten.
“Have you lost your sky?” she asked.
“I have lost my rain,” sniffed the cloud. “The other clouds are already over the mountain.”
Mila carried it in an open basket. She offered a cup of water, but the cloud shook its fluffy head. At the garden gate, they found a sunflower drooping in dry soil.
“I wish I could help,” whispered the cloud. One silver drop fell. Then another. The sunflower lifted its leaves.
“That is your rain!” Mila cried.
The cloud grew lighter and floated out of the basket. It waved a misty corner before drifting toward the mountain. The next morning, Mila found one shining drop on her apple tree. She smiled and watered the sunflower.
