A meaningful thought

The first sentence of a difficult conversation often determines whether you reach a solution or enter another defensive battle. Phrases such as “You always...” and “You never...” usually close the door to listening. Try beginning with the event and your experience: “When that happened, I felt ignored, and I want us to understand how we can handle it differently.” A soft start is not weakness. It allows you to tell the truth in a form the other person may still be able to hear.
