A meaningful thought

“I did not mean it that way” may explain your intention, but it does not erase another person’s pain. A mature apology does not focus only on what you wanted to do. It also acknowledges the actual impact of your words or actions. Instead of defending yourself immediately, listen. Say, “I understand that this hurt you,” and ask what you can do to repair the situation. Good intentions matter, but trust is rebuilt when the other person also sees responsibility and change.
