Parable about the trap

The mouse heard the farmer and his wife talking about setting a trap in the house. He quickly ran to the barn and shouted.
  • They are setting a trap in the house. How terrible!
The chicken grinned under her breath and said:
  • I understand your concern, Mrs. Mouse, but the trap does not bother me in the least.
The mouse ran to the pig. The pig comforted him and said calmly:
  • I apologize, but it is none of my business. I can only pray for you.
Then the mouse ran to the cow and said:
  • Those evil people have set a trap in the house.
The cow replied:
  • I am, of course, sorry for you, Mrs. Mouse, but these are your problems, but in no way mine, ha, ha, ha. I am so big that no trap is terrible for me.
The frustrated mouse returned home, trying to walk very carefully. That very night, a loud noise was heard: it was a trap. The farmer's wife ran to see the trapped mouse. In the darkness, she did not see that it was not a mouse, but a poisonous snake, whose tail had fallen into the trap. The snake bit the farmer's wife. The farmer took her to the hospital. The doctors did their job and they returned home. In the morning, she was still very weak.
And how do they cure seriously ill people? Well, of course, with chicken broth. But the poor woman remained sick, and friends and neighbors came to stay with her for weeks and take care of her. And to feed all those people, the farmer slaughtered a pig. Unfortunately, the farmer's wife never recovered and died. Many people came to her funeral, and the farmer had to slaughter a cow too.
The mouse watched sadly through a large hole in the wall as those who said the trap did not apply to them followed one another.
So the next time you hear that someone is in a bad situation and you are absolutely sure that it does not apply to you, remember the trap.
